As of today, twelve(12)  firefighters have died in the line if duty in the United States. Five of those deaths were vehicle accidents! The last death is an 18 (18!) year-old firefighter in Indiana, who was killed with his rig rolled on the way back to the station.  He had on a seat belt, but when the crew cab gets crushed by a power pole, that can be irrelevant.  The driver of the rig, this young man’s Lieutenant, escaped with “non-life-threatening” injuries.

Of the five accidents, only one is even alleged to be somebody else’s fault.  If this doesn’t strike you as a fitting death for someone who has committed their life to saving others, then pay attention when you’re under the wheel!
